Human Understanding & Engagement (HUE™) Approach

If you have ever participated in meetings that take a group to a dead-end or feel stuck in your own thought processing, it is likely because a vital step to understanding has been missed. DEVCA ensures that groups and individuals share important data, reflect on emotional experiences, share meaning and relevance, and find resolve in collective commitments to action.

DEVCA is a facilitation approach for individuals and groups.  In this model, participants engage in a natural process of human curiosity that leads to inclusive and informed decisions.

DEVCA Framework

Our DEVCA strategic thinking framework engages every individual’s mental processing through five types of thinking. It then guides the group through a natural process of decision-making to come together for collective action.

  1. Data-based Thinking
  2. Emotive Thinking
  3. Visionary Thinking
  4. Critical Thinking
  5. Action-oriented Thinking

Process Outcomes

  • Unify diverse perspectives around the vision for the future
  • Gain common understanding of the current reality
  • Identify areas for change and growth
  • Identify clear directions for what needs to happen
  • Determine initial accomplishments and success indicators
  • Create a realistic timeline with detailed implementation steps
  • Create a sense of pride and excitement for the vision
  • Inspire motivation and ownership for the work that must be done to accomplish the desired outcome

Client Testimonial

“Sterling Municipal Library is going through a period of growth and transition.  Like libraries across the country, our library recognizes that traditional service models are losing relevance to our communities.  Libraries have never been solely about books and reading, but as community needs change, libraries and librarians find themselves well positioned to take on new roles.  In preparation for creating a strategic vision that will help define those roles, library staff decided to participate in a series of environmental scanning activities.  Fortunate to have several HueLife trained individuals in our organization, we enlisted their help.  First, we chose “The Wave” to help us identify how library services have been trending over the past decade.  The exercise really illuminated the practices that we are ready to let go and got the group excited about areas we feel most worthy of our time and resources.
